OKX identity verification: ID, face scan and proof of address (checked November 2026)

· 3 min read

An OKX personal account has one required verification: fill in your details, photograph your ID, pass a face scan, and in some regions add a proof of address dated within three months. OKX says results come within 24 hours. Before verification you can't trade, deposit or withdraw. Only photos of original documents are accepted, no screenshots or photocopies. One ID verifies one account, and it can't be changed or cancelled afterwards.

1. How far you need to go

OKX used to have levels one, two and three. The help centre now calls it a single “advanced identity verification”, and a personal account needs it for everything: buying and selling, deposits, withdrawals, internal transfers. There is no higher tier for ordinary users. xStocks, P2P and derivatives all sit inside this one step.

In some regions, or after a risk review, OKX may also ask for proof of address or proof of source of funds. That’s enhanced due diligence, and ordinary users rarely meet it.

2. How to do it

  1. In the app open Menu, choose Account settings, tap Identity verification. On the website pick Verification from the profile dropdown, choose Individual account, tap Continue.
  2. Fill in your details: country of residence, nationality, full name, date of birth, ID type and number, residential address. The name must match your ID exactly, and if your ID has a local-language name, use that.
  3. Photograph the ID. Passports, national ID cards and driving licences are accepted. The document must show your name, date of birth, issue date and expiry date, with all four corners visible, sharp and unexpired. Only live photos of the original count. Screenshots, photos of photos and photocopies are rejected. Usually both sides are needed.
  4. Face scan. Fit your whole face inside the oval, no mask, glasses or hat, no flash. In some cases you’re asked for a selfie holding the ID, photo side facing the camera, not covering your face.
  5. Proof of address, if the page asks for it. A document issued within the last three months showing your current address.
  6. Submit. OKX says the review completes within 24 hours and you’re notified the moment it does. If more documents are needed, they email you.

3. By country: which ID to use

  • Vietnam: the CCCD chip ID card or a passport.
  • Nigeria: the NIN national ID card, an international passport or a driving licence. Since OKX restored service in Nigeria in July 2026, existing users have to verify again once.
  • Pakistan: the CNIC or a passport.

The country of residence you enter decides which fiat you can use on P2P. OKX’s rule is that verified users can only trade P2P in the fiat of their registered region. Live in Vietnam and it’s dong only.

4. Proof of address

Only needed when the “Proof of address” item appears on the page, which most users never see. The requirement: a document showing your current address, issued within six months for users in the European Economic Area and within three months everywhere else. Utility bills and bank statements both work.

5. Common reasons for failure

  • The ID photo is a screenshot or photocopy. Retake the original.
  • Blurry, glare, or a corner cut off.
  • Glasses on or poor light during the face scan.
  • Name doesn’t match the ID.
  • The same ID has already verified another account. One person, one account. To switch accounts use OKX’s migration process, not closing and starting over.

A rejection shows the reason on the page. Fix it and resubmit. If it can’t be fixed, use the support chatbot to reach a person.

6. FAQ

Do xStocks need extra verification?
No. Advanced identity verification is enough. Your first order asks you to read the risk disclosure, which is an agreement, not verification.
How long does verification take?
OKX says within 24 hours. For most people it’s minutes to a few hours.
Will I be asked to verify again later?
Yes. OKX treats verification as ongoing. An expired ID, a change in regulation or a jump in account activity can trigger a request to update details or add documents.
What is my verification data used for?
OKX says it’s used only to complete identity verification.
