Binance identity verification: ID, face scan and proof of address (checked November 2026)
Binance has one required verification level: pick your country of residence, photograph both sides of your ID, pass a face scan, confirm your details. Results usually come in minutes, up to 48 hours. Some countries or payment channels then ask for a proof of address dated within three months, reviewed in 3 to 4 working days. Personal details can't be changed once confirmed, and an ID can verify only one account.
1. How far you need to go
Binance calls its identity verification “Verified”, and new users must complete it before depositing, trading or buying crypto. Older unverified accounts get restricted to “withdraw only”. Real stocks, bStocks and P2P are all inside this level, and most readers stop here.
Some countries or specific payment channels ask for one more step, proof of address, and the app’s Identification page tells you when. Section 4 covers when it comes up.
2. How to do it
- In the app tap your avatar to open Account, choose Identification, tap “Get Verified”.
- Pick your country of residence, the document’s issuing country and the document type. Pick the real ones. They decide which products and payment methods you get.
- Photograph both sides of the ID. On the phone it’s direct. On the website you can scan a QR code to continue on your phone. Photos must be sharp, with all four corners in and no glare.
- Face scan. Follow the prompts to turn your head, no hat or glasses, enough light.
- Confirm your personal details. Name and date of birth must match the ID exactly, and they can’t be changed after confirmation.
- Wait for review. Most people get a result in minutes. Binance says usually within 48 hours, longer in some cases.
The website flow is the same as the app. Don’t refresh the page or resubmit during review.
3. By country: which ID to use
- Vietnam: the CCCD chip ID card or a passport.
- Nigeria: the NIN national ID card, an international passport or a driving licence.
- Pakistan: the CNIC or a passport.
The document must be valid, with the name and date of birth legible. For a passport, photograph the photo page.
4. When proof of address is required
Binance asks for proof of address in two cases: your region’s regulator requires it, or the fiat payment channel you use requires it, such as some card channels. You only need to do it when an “Address verification” entry appears on the Identification page. If it doesn’t appear, ignore it.
The requirements are much like Bybit’s: a document dated within three months, in your own name, with a full address. Accepted: utility bills for water, electricity or gas, internet bills, bank statements, government-issued proof of residence. Not accepted: mobile phone bills. Review takes 3 to 4 working days.
5. Common reasons for failure and what to do
- The ID has already verified another account. One person can verify one account. To switch accounts use Binance’s “update verification” process, not closing and re-registering.
- Face doesn’t match the ID photo. It goes to manual review, takes days, and may need extra documents.
- Expired ID, blurry photo, screenshot or scan. Retake the original.
- Wrong country of residence. The verification page lets you apply to update it, choosing “change of residence” as the reason, and you go through it again.
A new ID, a name change or a change of nationality can all be updated on the verification page by re-verifying with the new document.
